Himalayan Ride for Shelter

After being taken from the six day hike during the Purcell Mountains Challenge for Shelter due to medical issues, Tom McPhail came up with a unique idea for a fundraising event. A motorcycle enthusiast for more than 46 years, he decided to combine his love for motorcycling with his passion for the cause. Raising funds and awareness for The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, specifically Halton Women’s Place, is personal for Tom, as he grew up in that environment. His pursuit to help women and children escape violence and rebuild their lives shows in everything he does.  As a Top 1% donor, he has been fundraising for the Shelter Foundation for many years, including participating in the 100 km trek through the Sahara Desert at the Challenge for Shelter in Morocco in November 2019.

On August 6th, 2022, 13 motorcycle enthusiasts from Royal LePage offices across Canada will embark on a 13-day, 1410 km journey, riding for 6-7 hours per day across the majestic and rugged Himalayas in India. During their adventure, they will ride through pine forests, snow-capped mountains, and red rocky landscapes in a once in a lifetime motorcycle ride. They will be riding through some of the most scenic and breathtaking roads, as well as the Khardung La Pass, reputedly the highest motorable road in the world at 5380m (same height as the Everest Base Camp). They will be led on an epic ride by professional guides and locals, experience a beautiful culture, and most importantly – continue to raise critical funds for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

Legends of Rock PosterWith a personal fundraising goal of $10,000, Tom smashed that by hosting an event – Himalayan Ride for Shelter – Legends of Rock – on June 10th, 2022, at Granite Ridge Golf Course in Milton. The incredible event raised $14,785!  Presently, Tom has raised over $17,000 himself and the 13 member team has raised over $78,000 and counting.

To donate to Tom and the Himalayan Ride for Shelter, visit the fundraising page here. The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation issues tax receipts in February for all donations of $20+ made in the previous calendar year.
